FamilySmart is a nonprofit organization supporting parents and caregivers of children and youth facing mental health and substance use challenges. They are a trusted, province-wide resource in British Columbia, known for their lived experience–based peer support and practical tools for families. Pulse Brands was brought in to lead a full website redesign that would better reflect FamilySmart’s compassionate, inclusive identity and make it easier for families and professionals to access support. The organization needed a partner who could take the lead on strategy and content, guiding the project from discovery through to delivery.

We took a trauma-informed approach to every element of the project. From page structure to tone of voice, the content was developed to feel calm, clear, and supportive for families who are often overwhelmed or in crisis. We collaborated closely with FamilySmart’s leadership and peer support teams to ensure the new website would reflect their values and feel welcoming for every user.

Our work began with a full UX and visual design process rooted in accessibility, warmth, and clarity. From there, we developed a creative direction and visual identity anchored in storytelling and emotional resonance. We led the custom WordPress development to deliver a responsive, easy-to-manage platform built to support FamilySmart’s growth over time.

We wrote and structured the site’s content to feel supportive, clear, and approachable for parents, caregivers, and educators. Beyond the website, we also helped develop and package the FamilySmart digital toolkit — a collection of practical, downloadable resources designed for schools and families navigating mental health conversations.

The navigation and layout were guided by trauma-informed design principles, with special attention given to the emotional experience of visitors engaging with youth mental health topics.

Every decision was made with care, ensuring the site could serve as both a beacon of support and a place of action.
